Bavispe, Mexico 2008

I just returned from an amazing trip to "REAL" Mexico. After visiting the resort parts of Mexico over twenty times I have a new found love and appreciation for the country. I visited the small town of Bavispe, Sonora, Mexico. The town is located 6 hours (paved road or 2 hours dirt road) south of Douglas, AZ. I was introduced to family I had never known. It was a trip of a life time.

Top 6 things I learned...
1) I need to actually learn Spanish. Not everyone in Mexico speaks English.
2) Cancun, is not Mexico.
3) The border towns are facinating, but a little scary.
4) A 5'9 white girl from the mid-west can get her butt kicked playing volleyball against a 4 ft Mexican any day.
5) When playing volleyball "Mia, Mia" means "I got it white girl, get out of my way before I knock you down"
6) Saying "Hola" over and over does not mean I now know the language.
